The submerged arc furnaces pressure ring is a core component of the electrode holding system. It is primarily used to clamp conductive copper contact shoes, ensuring uniform current transfer to the electrodes, while withstanding extreme conditions such as high temperatures, high pressure, and intense electrical currents.

 

Structure and Function of SAF pressure ring

1.Core Components

    *The pressure ring is typically composed of two semi-circular halves connected by hinges. It integrates hydraulic cylinders, push rods, and elastic clamping mechanisms. Hydraulic-driven pistons enable clamping and releasing of the copper contact shoes.

    *Some designs adopt a segmented modular structure, allowing localized replacement of damaged sections to reduce maintenance costs.

2.Cooling System

The pressure ring requires water cooling to withstand temperatures exceeding 600°C. Common cooling configurations include:

    *Hollow chamber design: Internal vertical and horizontal baffles create multi-channel cooling paths to enhance heat dissipation.

    *Deflector baffles and recirculation loops: Extend coolant flow paths to improve cooling efficiency and prevent localized overheating.

    *Self-cleaning features: Modern designs incorporate scraping plates and removable sediment covers to clear scale deposits and prevent blockages.
